....in this post, Alice gets excited about meat pies

We went for a drive to Maketu today........

Of course, we were on the hunt for new camp sites to tell you about, and Maketu has a beautiful beach and a very nice campsite.

I had forgotten, however, that Maketu also has MAKETU PIES!!!! Maketu pies are one of the best commercially made meat pies in New Zealand. They often win awards, and many New Zealanders miss them when they go overseas.
So, I started explaining to Chris how very important meat pies are for New Zealanders, and Chris seemed a little bit indifferent, so I had to try HARDER, and explained about how, sure, pies are unhealthy, but they are the staple food of travellers all over New Zealand. You can buy them at gas stations and dairies (dairy=convenience store), but they're usually not very yummy. If you buy them at a bakery, that's probably better quality. But if it's a Maketu pie, well, that's worth introducing to a German visiting New Zealand.
Chris wouldn't try it though.

There's even an annual national award for pies, and while scanning through them before writing this post, I noticed a bakery in Opotiki (you know Opotiki!), The Bakehouse won this year's Gold Award for their Steak and Cheese pies.
Maybe I can take Chris to try one!
Here are some more photos of Maketu.
